I sostantivi cleaning e cleansing hanno entrambi a che fare con la pulizia, ma cleansing ha una sfumatura di significato più forte, che lo avvicina al termine italiano “purificazione” e viene utilizzato anche in senso figurato: The ethnic cleansing during the Bosnian war was horrendous, la pulizia etnica durante la guerra in Bosnia fu terribile (non The ethnic cleaning during the Bosnian war was horrendous); soul cleansing, purificazione dell'anima.
